Gyms aren't for everyone. It's expensive, it's crowded, and sometimes it stinks. To make matters worse, you have to get there by car - making it ten times harder to convince yourself to go.

But if you have the space, you have another option for exercising in front of a stranger without having to travel a long way: just bring the gym equipment home.

Yeah, it might cost you some of the money, but if you're adding all those years of fitness costs to you, then buying your own fitness equipment and renovating a home gym will do the trick. (All of this assumes you'll use it regularly, and that part is entirely up to you.) And it's a good thing not to have to come home tired and then come home again after an intense workout. When you're done, you can lie down on the couch.

The hard part is making the choice. What exercise equipment would you like to take home first? A treadmill? An oval? A horizontal cart? If you don't have enough cash, we don't recommend buying it all at once. You have to be honest with yourself, know what sport you're best at, and work from there. If you can't run, you need to run. If you're a bike enthusiast, it's a spinning bike. Full-time yoga enthusiast? You need a good cushion.

As long as there's space and cash. But we say all you need is an aerobics machine, like a treadmill or an elliptical. Electronics and other similar devices are mostly for convenience, and while it's great on its own, you can still get the same effect if you use free weights that have a good shape. Don't cram your body into your house for no reason. Make sure it has material value for you.

Why is home fitness equipment so expensive? You will often recoil when you see these prices, but unfortunately, this is the standard for high-quality fitness equipment. If you want a piece of equipment that can compete with your local gym, you have to make it an investment. But don't worry, if you keep using the equipment you bought (not just gym selfies), they will eventually spend the money you saved when you broke up with your gym member.

The budget for exercise machines is also low, but even those cost some money, so we say quality matters. Many brands also offer payment plans, so if you can't pay for everything up front, be sure to check them out.
